My favorite cooking memories all involve waking up on a Saturday morning at my grandmother's house on the shore and "helping" her make cream dried beef- my favorite at the time. I'm sure all I did was get in the way, but she taught me a lot about feeling comfortable in the kitchen and cooking free form. Also, whenever I tell people this story now, they're disgusted that I was such a cream dried beef fan but the truth is I only like hers and I'm sure everyone else would love it too!

I make crockpot macaroni and cheese every "big cooking" holiday. I am not the greatest cook (my husband does most of the cooking in our family) but my family LOVES this recipe. I recently taught my daughter how to make it, too and now it is our thing. :)

I remember discovering the popular raw foods diet and making raw brownies for the first time. They were so delicious that I swore off of baked brownies!

Todayz Fashionz said...

I do cook myself, but my fondest memories of cooking are still from when I was a little girl. I remember enjoying my mother's cakes, and pies during Christmas time. Our dinning room table would be covered with her delicious desserts. Those years were some of my most happiest years. My mom past away when I was in the 4th grade, so all the memories I have of her are from my childhood years. I am in my 50's now, but my memories of her, and the good times we shared still make me =0) even now.

I would like to have a Standard mixer over the hand held one I currently use. I would be more inclined to try making different receipes because the mixer would be doing the hard work, and it would be fun to use.

Honestly, I really don't like to cook/bake, but I do try to cook/bake.
Back to the question though...one great memory I have of cooking was making cookies with my mom one year and I got very sick from eating so much of the raw cookie dough. I think I ate more dough than I did baked cookies. Eekk! I've recovered though....thank goodness. Hee-hee-hee-hee!

The cooking memories I cherish most are the ones I'm making with my own children. My 16 yo daughter is quite proficient in the kitchen. From yeast & quick breads to cheesecake to cookies and candy, she does it all. And the whole family eats all of her creations. I would love to win a Kitchenaid Mixer for her, so she no longer has to mix everything by hand.

In high school, I would bake cookies very late at night on Christmas Eve. If dad got up out of bed to eat fresh cookies, we would get to open our presents that night. If he didn't, we had to wait until the next morning. I always made Dad's favorite cookies first - it always worked too!

I got the love of cooking and baking from my dad. He did most of the cooking at home. He would always invent new recipes that were really good. He passed away 13 years ago and I still remember my sister and I sitting at the table while he made his famous sweet bread. He would want us to watch so we could remember how to make it but that was so long ago we forgot. Recently I found a notebook with his recipes and I found the ingredients for the bread but he never wrote down how much of each to put in or how to make it. I do make his other recipes. Thanks for this great giveaway!

I remember when I was very young and my mom, grandmother and great grandmother especially during the holidays and the huge mountains of food they would cook! There would be pies, cakes and cookies, every kind of each you could imagine, and every kind of main dishes. How they did it on a 4 burner stove and 1 oven I can not begin to imagine, other than they would cook for days!
